Golden Ear Technology was founded in 2010 by Partners Sandy Gross and Don Givogue. Sandy Gross was originally co-founder of Polk Speakers as well as Definitive Technology. Don Givogue was also a partner at Definitive Technology and head of the engineering department. Their passion for manufacturing speakers continues today with Golden Ear Technology. The goal was to manufacture a new line of speakers utilizing a new design on the High Velocity Folded Ribbon (HVFR™) tweeter design. This tweeter is found throughout the Golden Ear speaker line. The HVFR tweeter transmits the sound and moves the air by squeezing a pleated diaphragm, instead of pushing the air like a conventional tweeter. This allows for much greater efficiency, lower distortion, improved sound, and amazing detail. The Golden Ear team wanted to develop a line of speakers that are sonically superior, and performed as well as other speakers costing three, four, or five times as much. The SurperSat series from Golden Ear is a lot of speaker in a little package. Each SuperSat speaker uses the High Velocity Folded Ribbon (HVFR™) tweeter design. The HVFR tweeter transmits the sound and moves the air by squeezing a pleated diaphragm, instead of pushing the air like a conventional tweeter. The other driver used in the SuperSat series in their newly developed 4.5” midrange driver that uses a cast basket and multi-vaned phase plug design (MVPP™), the drivers are arranged in a D’Appolito Array. SuperSat series speakers come in either a horizontal or vertical application (the “C” designation signifies the horizontal speaker used as a center speaker). The Golden Ear Aon series is their concept of a bookshelf speaker. Available in two sizes Aon 2 utilizes a 6” Midrange coupled to two 6.5” internally balanced low-frequency radiators. The Aon 3 utilizes a 7” Midrange coupled to two 8” internally balanced low-frequency radiators. Each Aon speaker uses the High Velocity Folded Ribbon (HVFR™) tweeter design. The HVFR tweeter transmits the sound and moves the air by squeezing a pleated diaphragm, instead of pushing the air like a conventional tweeter. Each subwoofer utilizes Golden Ear custom designed high output drivers with very large motor assemblies. Rigid cabinets with non-parallel sides to minimize standing waves and distortion. Up to 1500 watts of DSP amplification which is available in the greater bass extension.
